The process is technical, the metal is heavy with its added supports and needs to be prepared meticulously before it is painted. Gloss paint is difficult to use, it must go on a completely flat surface and must be manoeuvred quickly. Several layers go onto each section, each layer taking a week to dry. The beauty of the gloss paint on aluminium is that the paint creates a lacquered effect against the smoothness of the metal. The materials work well together.
Although the ideas that inspire my work are instinctive and spontaneous, the paintings must be planned meticulously because of these materials. I am precise about the application of paint, and one continuous line describing the body can take several hours with no break.
